The Department of Geoinformatic was established in August 2004. The Department now has 16 teaching staff. Of whom including 3professors, 9 associate professors, 2 lecturers and 1 assistant teacher. Of them, 90% are doctor degree. 1 winner of Guangdong provincial “Thousand-hundred-ten Talent Program, 12 of the faculty are advisers for Ph.D. degree programs and master degree programs.

The department has one undergraduate programs of geographic information science, 2 authorized disciplines to confer master’s degrees, which are Cartography and Geography Information System and Engineering of Land use. 1 doctorate program of Engineering of Land use

The department is well equipped with teaching and research facilities. There are 11research platform, including Guangdong Province Key Laboratory of Land Use and Consolidation, Key Laboratory of reuse of Construction land of Ministry of Land and Resources, Guangdong Province Technical Centre of Land information Engineering, Field Observation and Research Base of Ministry of Land and Resources, Tianhe Industry- Academy–Research Base of Land Use and Consolidation, The National Defence Science and Industry Bureau of Southern China Comprehensive Test field of High Resolution Remote Sensing. The department is Chairman of Surveying and Geographic Information Industry Innovation Alliance

In the recent 5 years, the Department of Geoinformatics has undertaken more than 100 research projects and scientific research funds more than 60 million Yuan. Of them, including 6 National Natural Science Fund program, 2 National Key Technology Support Program, 2 National Commonweal Research program, 32 provincial and ministerial level research programs. The department has got Authorized 10 invention patents, 30 computer software copyrights, 11 provincial and ministerial level awards. More than 160 papers were published, including 40 SCI and EI indexed papers.
