Introduction to Department of Plant Nutrition

In 1984 and 2000, the department of plant nutrition was approved to award master and Ph.D degrees majoring in plant nutrition by the academic degree commission of the state council, respectively. In 2000, it was approved to award master and Ph.D. degrees majoring in fertilizer science. Plant nutrition is one of the key disciplines of the "211 Project" at SCAU, and is also the key and priority discipline in Guangdong Province.

The department has 18 faculty members, including 9 professors, 4 associate professors. Among them, 11 and 6 faculty members have Ph.D. and master degrees, respectively. Faculty members are awarded as State-Council Allowance Obtained Expert, Chang Jiang Scholar Programof Youth, National Natural Science Foundation of Outstanding Youth, Guangdong Province Training Program for "Qianbaishi project" of Institutes for Higher Education, and Natural Science Foundation of Outstanding Youth in Guangdong Province.

The department includes Guangdong Environmental Friendly Fertilizer Engineering Center, Root Biology Center, Fertilizer and Balanced Fertilization Laboratory, Crop Nutrition and FertilizationLaboratory, Soilless Cultivation and Technology Laboratory, and Root Layer Regulation Laboratory. The main research fields include physiology and molecular biology of plant nutrition, root biology, plant rhizosphere nutrition, fertilizer application and nutrient management, research and development of new fertilizer industrialization and application, water-fertilizer integration technology and application, and development and application of large-scale soilless culture technology. The department has participated in a group of national and international key projects, including China Agriculture Research System (CARS), National “11th Five-Year” and “12th Five-Year” Projects, National Natural Science Fund, National 863/973/ 948 Projects, and International Cooperation Projects. Recently, more than 400 papers have been published. Among them, more than 100 papers have been included by SCI or EI database. Totally, 16 academic monographs have been published. More than 30 patents have been authorized. Faculty members in the department have won the Second Class Prizes of The State Scientific and Technological Progress Award and other more than 20 science and technology prizes at the provincial level or above.
